Our Mission

Grace Lutheran Church will gather our community around the Word and Sacraments of Christ, grow in grace and knowledge of God together, and sow the peace and love of God in our community.

Jesus Christ said to His apostles, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” (John 20:21) Therefore, in order to understand our mission, we must understand Christ’s mission. Here at Grace Lutheran Church, we are joining Christ on His mission.

God, the Creator of all things, has sent His only Son to become human like us: Jesus Christ, born of Mary. He is a true historical man, and truly the Son of God. He suffered and died under Pontius Pilate to redeem mankind from their sins. He rose on the third day, alive and never to die again. His mission is once and always the same, throughout the Bible and unto today: to bring people to repentance over their sin, brokenness, and evil deeds—and also give them the good news of forgiveness! Because the innocent Son of God has died for His fellow humans, there is no reason to fear God or expect punishment from Him. We are reconciled to God, and with each other! He even sends us the Holy Spirit, so that God lives within our bodies!

Christ sent His apostles to preach both God’s Law (which shows us our sin) and the Gospel (which shows us Christ and forgiveness), and the mission continues until Christ returns!

So how do we do that?

JOIN US

We gather around the Word of Jesus Christ, hearing the Bible several times a week, and receiving the mysterious gifts of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (the Sacraments).

We grow in grace and knowledge of God together, as the Gospel transforms us into the image of Christ, who is perfect love and truth, and we see Him more and more in the Scriptures, working in the world, and working through each other.

We sow the peace and love of God in our community, through acts of mercy and charity, by looking out for the good of our neighbors, our city, our country, and the world.

Romans 10:6-11

6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
